My interest in photography began in grade school. I would set up a “portrait studio” in the living room by hanging a bed sheet and shining house lamps toward it. Fast forward 20 years and today I am living my dream as a worldwide photographer based in Los Angeles.

It wasn’t the smoothest journey. Though I was always creative it was instilled at a young age I should have a practical career. My parents had dreams I would grow up to be a Chemist and work in the family business. I gave it a try and after attending UCLA and working in the Biotech industry for a few years, I realized what a wrong fit it was. My best friend said, “I’ve never seen you so unhappy before.”

I cried when I told my mom I wanted to move to LA to pursue photography. It was far from what was planned, but it is hands down the best decision I’ve ever made. I’m sure having their kid run off to be an artist was a nightmare come true. I understood their concern but felt confident I would succeed, because every ounce of me knew photography was my calling.

My parents relaxed after they saw I could make a living, not to mention have a happy daughter. In the end, I think that’s what is important. Do what makes you happy. The people who love you want to see you happy.
