A Los Angeles Backyard Elopement
I’ve always been fond of elopements, where the focus is on sharing and committing your heart versus flowers, linens, and aesthetic perfection.
Don’t get me wrong – I’m a sucker for aesthetic beauty and throwing a good party. My OCD ass will spend hours making something look fab. But when it comes to the nitty gritty, elopements have a way of getting me.
During the last backyard elopement I photographed, I saw the couple’s dog Max in the corner watching. It was an amazing moment but my first thought? “Uh! There’s a bag behind him. This shot isn’t going to look good.” Maybe it was the spiritual vibes flying around (it was a Kundalini ceremony), but suddenly it hit me. It didn’t matter the bag was there.
When this couple looks back on their wedding, are they going to think about the bag? Probably not. They are going to think about what they were feeling in that moment, and Max’s adorable face. I love the picture because it perfectly sums up the vibe of the ceremony they chose to have. Organic.
This is why I think elopements are the bomb.com – You get to be present and do things the way you want to do them without anyone else’s opinion or idea of perfection.
Big wedding, small wedding, elopement… At the end of the day, the emotions are the same and you have a spouse. That’s what matters most.
Thank you to Caroline & Grecco for sharing their day with me. I feel lucky I get to witness such beautiful things all the time. Makes one very optimistic. 🙂
